10th February 2007.....The Launch Day!

What an exciting Saturday this was! It was our very first day working for HFM. We had our launch down at the Square in Market Haborough where there was  a brilliant turn out! We had a very special brave girl to switch on HFM. It was 3 year old Eva Winston-Hart....
please visit our website at http://www.harboroughfm.co.uk/ and click on her picture on the main page.

Eva has captured the hearts of the whole of the Harborough community over the last few months.
Eva has a rare form of Leukaemia and the search is continuing to find a bone marrow match for her.

We will put the pictures of the launch day up on the 'Pictures' page very soon so keep checking as Mark was dressed as John Travolta and Nina was dressed as....well it was either a 70's Flower Chick or Bertie Bassett!

Now on to the show....well it was nerve wracking at the start.... we sat in our board room for about half an hour planning our show .... it relaxed us a little but not loads! And it was Mark's Job to do the controls.... because women are better at talking! Our first 2 songs we decided had to be to do with the weather as it was raining for the majority of the time whilst we were on The Square. We decided on ELO's - 'Mr Blue Sky' and then it had to be Supertramp's - It's Raining Again!

Well we could go on and on here but that would just bore you! so here's what both Mark and Nina had to say about their first show.....

Mark......"Well I thought all in all, the day was brilliant! I did get a call at about 9.30pm the previous night from Susie saying 'Steve has dropped out as he has to work. Can you dress up as John Travolta?' However, to be honest I didn't have a choice! I'm glad I did as it was all great fun and of course, as I was dressed up, Nina had to be too! She will tell you about that so I don't get hit next time I see her! Our first show went pretty well, actually. I was a little nervous 5 minutes before we went on but after the first hour I was more relaxed... all in all a brilliant day!"

Nina........"It was wet and cold and I was dressed as, allegedly a Liquorice Allsort!  I thought I looked pretty good, but I was obviously under an illusiom, or was it a huge rain cloud?  Despite the weather, I think we managed to promote the station well in Harborough and hope that the word is being spread about our great new Community Station.  It's great to be back and in the words of Ronald MacDonald - I'm loving it!"

On our first show, we introduced, what Mark called, 'A soon to be Legendary Lyric Competition.' What we do is give you a couple of lines from a song in any decade and ask you to ring us in the studio on 01858 464666 or you can email us in the studio on studio@harboroughfm.co.uk or text us on 30600. Remember to start your message with HFM, leave a space, then send your message. Each week on our updates we will tell you the answer. This week we had 2 lyric competitions. It was a bit busy so I think we will stick to one per week.

We had:

"When I find myself in times of trouble,
Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom...."

Now this one was very easy! It was of course, The Beatles' never forgotten, 'Let It Be.' This was guessed correctly in the first 10 minutes by Mark... who called us from Isham so well done to him.

The second set of lyrics were:

"Wake up in the morning with a head like ‘what ya done?’
This used to be the life but I don’t need another one.
You like cutting up and carrying on you wear them gowns.
So how come I feel so lonely when you’re up getting down?"

Now this one was a bit more difficult.... but if you're good with your music, as George is, you would have guessed it was the Scissor Sisters hit from 2006 called 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. So well done George. All in all it was a busy show for Mark and Nina as there were several calls coming through for requests as well and the odd comment saying 'Brilliant Show'.
